• 5.0 out of 5 stars from R. Bault -- It's 12:30 AM and I'm going to read one more story. : This is a very interesting true to life collection of stories from a real police officer. I'm on chapter 12 now and have literally picked up Twisted but True twice. Very few books hold my interest but this book is different. Probably because the stories are all true. Twisted but True gives examples of how a police officer is human, makes human decisions, and sometimes human mistakes. This book gives me a view into what goes on, good or not so good, in the life of an officer. It's serious enough to make you cringe, funny enough to make you laugh, and most of all interesting enough to make you want to read just one more story. • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Phoenix, AZ -- Darren is funny and his stories are engaging : Once I picked up this book, I could not put it down. It is well written and its hilarious. Its provides some humorous insight on the day to day life as a police officer. Each chapter is a separate story on an actual police call so you can jump around or read it in order. Darren is funny and his stories are engaging. I literally laughed out loud throughout the entire book from locking himself out of his patrol car to the mace and feces incident. In his almost 30 year careen with the Phoenix Police Department, Darren saw a lot, and went on so many interesting police calls. I highly recommend this book. • 5.0 out of 5 stars from KM -- Twisted but True - A must read by all, especially firefighters, police officers, and fun co-workers! : Author, Darren Burch does a phenomenal job of chronicling his life as a police officer in "Twisted but True" by sharing his life-long experiences as a police officer, chapter by chapter. He put me on an emotional roller coaster ride where at one point I'd be laughing hysterically then the next chapter would have my jaw dropping to its lower extreme, simply in awe at what I was reading. I have the utmost respect for the men and women in blue and Darren's work made me quickly realize that he is one of those guys I purposely walk up to and thank for all he does every day for us. Coming from an Air Force flying background, I thought I had heard, witnessed, or experienced first-hand nearly every practical joke that could be played on a friend/coworker. Nope. Simply not the case. Darren opened my eyes to some new pranks that made me burst into laughter. He's my kind of guy and my kind of author. I highly recommend this book to every firefighter, police officer, and "fun" coworker you know. It's a perfect gift! You will not be disappointed. Order your copy today! • 5.0 out of 5 stars from M. E. Duval -- An easy and extremely enjoyable read! : I greatly enjoyed this book. It was easy to read and moved along nicely. I was impressed that Darren kept it real and included some of the things that went wrong as well as the things that went right. I loved the story where he locked himself out of his patrol vehicle. That sounded like something I might do if I was an officer on my first solo call. There was a great variety of incidents from many emotional standpoints which really kept it interesting. We also got a glimpse of the humor that often erupts among officers. The job they do is often stressful and emotional and I suspect the humor (sometimes pretty dark) helps to relieve some of that stress. ( Reviewed in the United States on January 27, 2019 )

Be prepared to LOL, be a little grossed out and not want to put this book down. People really have done what?! And the bizarre sex crimes.. OMG. Well written by the author. I felt like I was really there during the shootout, practical jokes portrayed amongst the police department and various crazy arrests. The honesty and reality from the author keeps you turning the pages. Whats REALLY cool- all profits from the sale of the e-book go to Crime Stoppers, where he has served as a program director for the last 6 years. • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Suzz -- Intriguing true life of a police officer : I enjoyed this book because it gave me a real clue what an officers every day life is really like. I felt like I really got to know the author as a real person with real things going on in his life. I enjoyed his humor with some of his encounters. I especially liked the names he gave to either suspects or victims. Gave me a laugh. Since I have lived in the Phoenix area forever, I had a picture in my head where he was on his calls. • 5.0 out of 5 stars from SarahWeinisch -- Compelling : I really like this book. Usually when I pick up a book, I read it pretty much in one sitting, but this one is different. I'm finding myself reading a little at a time. Then putting it down and just THINKING about all of the adventures he went through. Then after I've exhausted every angle of my thought process, I go back for more. This is definitely a must read for anyone in law enforcement, and especially for anyone considering a career in law enforcement. It's nice to hear from one of the "good guys" for a change. I worked in emergency services myself, for 33 years and I drew many parallels from the stories to my own experiences.
